Air-to-Water Heat Pumps—Replace Your Boiler!

It is not uncommon for homes built before 1960 to use a gas boiler and baseboard or wall mounted radiators for space heating. Is it possible to convert those homes to efficient heat pumps for heating and cooling? Join us as we dive into air-to-water heat pumps, a solution that is becoming more available as manufacturers are adapting technology that is common in Europe to the specific needs of the American market.

Air-to-water systems can be used for straight gas boiler replacements but also offer advantages that improve home comfort, such as more consistent temperatures, better temperature control, and cooling. Like all heat pumps, these systems operate at much higher efficiency than combustion technology which can translate to lower operating costs. A single outdoor compressor unit can be configured with a variety of indoor emitter options depending on the needs of the home, including baseboard heaters, wall or ceiling panels, hydronic fan coils or radiant floor loops that can provide heating or cooling. They can also deliver domestic hot water heating to eliminate the need for stand-alone water heaters.
