For my August “First Wednesday Concert,” I’m honored and amused to collaborate again with National Fingerpicking Champion Helen Avakian, and her music and life partner Dave Irwin, guitarist of no lean means himself. Together they are the Red Door Duo. And their red door just might be visible as I’ll be visiting them at their home in Wisconsin.
We’ll explore and experience the healing powers of the guitar, its emotional challenges, and therapeutic powers. This is not quite Guitar Pickers Anonymous – as you know well who we are - but we’ll admit to misspent youths and solitary pursuits that have led us to this camaraderie.
We sing too, and it is always fun to make harmony with these great musicians and sonic philosophers. Do come and join the harmonic convergences.
