Hello fans of clean fantasy!
January, February, March, and April were building months for me: Gathering alpha readers for my next book (thank you to everyone who signed up!), writing, and starting to send chapters to my alpha readers for feedback. I’m about 20% through the first draft of The Vivamancer’s Song, and am on track to finish by September.
May, by contrast, has been an action month!
Last Thursday, I attended a literary night at a Catholic private school, where I taught kids there how to play my card game, Mancery Mayhem (with some help from two teenage super fans that I brought with me).
Last Saturday, I had a booth at the inaugural Grove City Book Fest. It was fantastically attended with gorgeous weather, and almost exceeded my record for most sales at a book event! (The Aquamancer’s Secret, in particular, was selling like hot cakes and I had to ask my wife to bring me more!)
The last three days, I’ve been at a conference in Sandusky, Ohio, for Latter-day Saint homeschoolers. It’s been incredible! I’ve sold a boatload of books, taught a class on creative discipleship to a brilliant group of young writers who asked million-dollar questions, and have been surrounded by a community of the happiest, most joyous families I’ve ever met. And I’ve been able to dance with my wife, enjoy ice cream, and a walk along Lake Erie. (This is the first overnight trip we’ve been on by ourselves since having kids 5 years ago!)
All this means that I’ve done very little writing in the last two weeks—but I’ve also sold more books in 8 days than I did in the previous 5 months, so there’s that!
Truly, “to everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heavens.”
May angels attend you in every “season” of your life!
