Day 6 [30 day challenge]

It’s been a rough week. So why am I posting this? Because life is about showing up. If you don’t show up to life, then that is death. We don’t want that. So I continue the 30 day challenge…

Fun was had on the beach. I filmed our dog running around in slow motion.

Earlier I’d started my final Botany class report write-up. It’s challenging, but I like it. Learning the process of knowledge creation. I’ve always loved science, but now I’m a few steps closer to the actual stuff that makes science tick forward in its glacial way.

The audio track to the video is a combination of live sound with an added track I created. It’s a modular patch using a scale called Pelog (Gamelan), going into 3 varied piano samples + high pass filter + glitchy, randomized delay.

The Pelog scale is beautiful. I don’t think it’s really highlighted in this track though. But I was reminded of it when I read a sample of Dusty Henry’s new book ‘20th Century Ambient’ about how Satie and some other cats heard a Gamelan orchestra at the World’s Fair long ago and it had a deep impact on them. They were so used to hearing Western 12 note tuning that I guess it blew their minds :-)
