Remembering a lost treasure: Pantheon

Hello my friend,

Okay maybe that’s a bit much, but Pantheon was a fun book that was created and written by Bill Willingham, with art by Mike Leeke, published by Lone Star Press in the late 90’s. I’m a long-time fan of Bill Willingham’s Elementals. So, when I heard that he was doing a new superhero comic I was excited. I don’t know if I knew this at the time, but Pantheon was supposed to be a possible ending to the Elementals comic series. Now for myself I don’t know how true that is since none of the original characters are represented. I don’t think it would have been difficult to make ersatz versions to fill in for them and surround them by these various other newer characters, but it’s a good story to tie up an old story he never got to finish and one that we’ll probably never get to see finished, unfortunately.

The thing I most enjoyed were the characters who are easily relatable, now the fact that many of them are amalgams of many of the superheroes that many of us have grown up with at Marvel and DC, it makes it easy to relate to them. The story is a simple one, in a world where all of the villains have been defeated, who do the heroes have left to fight, but one another and various governments.

One group of heroes is all for retirement and living normal lives, while another group thinks it would be better to rule the world and guide humanity for its own good. Sound familiar, yeah, we’ve heard it all before, regardless it was a fun and was completed in 13 issues. Shame there’s no trade of it, but there are dollar bins, so go hunting and find some Indy gold.

Speaking of Indy gold, I have a couple of campaigns currently running now on Kickstarter the first is Magi’s Grace 1-3, a story where a sorceress and a monster hunter team up to heal the ills of a town named Innsmouth, where a village of fish people are being invaded by vampires, and Magi and Grace at the behest of an ancient one have commissioned them to end the siege on his people. http://kck.st/4a46tVx

I also have What My Eyes See I Cannot Tell 1-5, the latest story in The Oswald Chronicles, where we find Oswald swept into a portal and trapped in another dimension and pressed into the service of a group privateers who promise to return him back to his home when their worlds align again. While in their company Oswald finds Mar mixed within their crew, a people that Oswald once ruled over while he was in Dream, and more disturbing he sees his long-lost wife has been captured by these pirates and nothing will stop him until he finds out why and how she’s in their company. http://kck.st/3L2TQ2E
