I hope you are staying cool in this heat wave! This heat wave is a reminder that our individual actions are not, in fact, for nothing. Adjusting our thermostat, picking up trash along the beach, clothing swaps, compost processing, and other types of events featured in this newsletter all move us towards a world that prioritizes less waste, less pollution, and healthier communities. It’s communities who care, coming together, that push forward policies like NYC’s recent urban forest plan. [BK] Experience Cyanotype: An exploration of Cyanotype Printing on Recycled Materials: 10:30 am-1 pm. “Join us for a 2-hour cyanotype workshop (followed by a 30-min after-class tea time) hosted by artist and educator Ife Oluwamuyide, where you will learn the basics of cyanotype printing. Workshop participants will experiment with cyanotype printing techniques on recycled textiles such as fabric paper.”

[BX] After Holiday Weekend Clean Ups: 9 am-12 pm. “Join the Van Cortlandt Park staff in cleaning up the Park after holiday weekends.”
[BX] Street Tree Care w/ Decatur Block Association: 12-2 pm. “We will be briefly discussing the numerous benefit of trees in our urban environment before getting dirty and applying our 5 steps of tree care to as many tree beds as we can get to!”
[MNHTN] Street Tree Canopy Care Volunteer Day: 5-7 pm. “Join us in caring for our urban forest canopy in the LES! Trees clean our air, cool our streets, mitigate flooding, and much more!”

[BK] Salt Lot Compost Processing with Big Reuse: 9 am-12 pm. “We will be processing food scraps collected from our community drop-offs, maintaining our education corner with smaller compost systems, and taking care of miscellaneous tasks around the site.”
