God drops titles for all of my books.
So I said, “Nuns with Guns, huh?” and spurted a little chuckle.
Soon after, my husband and I went to visit the convent where my daughter Sister Mercy lives in D.C. with her 28 other sisters.
We were having dinner and I told my daughter about the title of my next book.
And she said, “Moooommm- you can’t!”
And I said, “Oh yes, I can.” and laughed.
Then she turned to her fellow sisters on either side and said, “Okay, tell her what happened.”
A van full of sisters went to drop of food at a homeless shelter.
All were back in the van waiting for the driver.
It was stifling hot so they slid the side door open and were people watching.
A man wearing bunny slippers walked by and they smiled. A little strange, but hey…
As they watched, he began to look over his shoulder and walk a little faster.
The sisters leaned in to watch.
A policeman was following him.
The next thing you know, he ran a few cars up and slipped between them.
Then he ran towards the van, jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to start the van!!
The cop tried to wrestle the keys from him and then shouted for the girls to jump out.
He then said to just let him go.
So Bunny Slippers speeds away down the road.
Meanwhile, one of the sisters exclaims, “Oh no! I left the cell phone in the van!!”
(This is kinda a big deal since there are only 3 cell phones for the whole household.)
So she borrows a phone and calls the phone….
“So, um, are you driving a grey van??”
“No, but someone in a grey van threw this phone out the window and I picked it up.”
“Well, um, that person stole our van.”
“A year ago, I would have sold this phone for drugs.
Six months ago, I would have sold it for money.
But today, I’m feeling kinda nice. I’m gonna bring it to you.”
Bunny Slippers has driven to fast, jumps a cement median, and the van lands on it’s side with two flat tires.
“So, Sister Mercy? We’ll be a little late for dinner. Don’t worry, we’re all okay.”
Hmmmm….. who is Bunny Slippers and why is he stealing a van???
