It is interesting to see that after years of finding new ways to interface with computers, professionals always end up on the terminal. Why the terminal of all things? If you have made the experience of using the computer with a keyboard only, you see that your brain wires the thought of a command and the typing reflex to execute this command almost perfectly. At some point you start typing…
I taught myself vim many years ago. If I remember correctly I played a game that teaches you the keymap like h,j,k,l for navigation. Then I installed a ton of plugins that turned vim into an IDE and for the same reason never used it again. Instead of managing plugins and syncing buffers I ended up using Helix . The most important feature to me is “full-text search”. I need to comb…
I did a rubber ducking session with my brother and we solved a problem that was nagging me for quite some time. In a previous blog post I mentioned that I was not able to use the EurKEY keyboard layout nor map the compose key. If only I had known earlier what the 3rd level on my keyboard is. The keyboard I am using looks like this: Right of the space bar is a “Win” or…
At then end of each post you can leave a comment. This comment section is powered by Remark42 . A highly recommended comment engine. But be aware, there is no SaaS and you have to host it yourself (maybe that is way it is so good). For quite some time the only option to authenticate on my site was using GitHub . As a proud member for Codeberg this had to change.
Before we start I wanna thank…
As mentioned many times I am using Obsidian to manage my knowledge bases, websites and documentations. In fact this blog post has been written in Obsidian. With the help of Hugo the markdown files are turned into html. They work pretty well together, except for one thing.
In Hugo static files such as images go into the static folder. Let’s say we have an image…
The app I am using to create the post header images is 8Bit Photo Lab . I cannot praise this app enough. The thing it does is simple. You take an image and run it through a bunch filters (downsampling) and out comes a pixelated version of it. The new image does not compare to the original. With this app you always create something new.
8Bit Photo Lab comes from a time where apps explored the…
In my last post I talked about using the KDE window manager and now I am hooked. One thing I really like about KDE is KDE Connect .
KDE Connect connects your phone and computer. This makes it easy to

 Transfer files between your devices
 Copy to the clipboard
 Run commands remotely
 Use phone as a presenter
Receive phone notifications on your laptop
 Send…
Before switching to Arch Linux I used Fedora / Gnome . Since then I tried other window manager such as sway or hyprland . But they were to complicate to get running properly.
For gaming I am using a Steam Deck that runs Arch/ KDE . I decided to give KDE a try on my Arch machine.
The nice thing about window managers on Linux: You can have multiples! So if something does not work as…
It is time that I start telling you my passion for Magic the Gathering (MtG) and my MtG Cube. For people who live in normal houses: What is Magic the Gathering?
 History
Magic the Gathering is trading card game invented by Richard Garfield and released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. It is the oldest trading card game there is.
I was born in 1991 and so I only learned about Magic…
Keyboard shortcuts can make dealing with computers a lot easier. But for some unknown reason they are well hidden secret. This time I found a new shortcut for Firefox and would like to share it with you.
The most used key on my keyboard are most likely super + tab . Pressing these keys will give you a preview of the last opened windows. By holding super and pressing tab again you can cycle…
Warning: I am a heavily invested Obsidian user. I am using Obsidian to interact with wikis, websites, this blog, databases and the file system. Most of my vaults are published to the web. To do so I am using Vuepress for most projects. In this blog I am exploring publishing with Quartz .
Vuepress does not know about Obsidian. To some degree this is good. It makes sure that the two systems…
I received a mail from Patreon with subject “A feed with that cozy, old internet feel”. By default Thunderbird blocks remote content such as images. The irony here is that I was not able to read the mail. So much for the “old internet feel”.
Here is the mail in question:

The ncdu command line utility is the perfect tool to analyse your disk usage. Here is a short introduction.
Open a shell, navigate into a directory and the enter ncdu . The program starts scanning the folder and subs folders. Depending on the depth of folder and file count this may take a while.

Uff, my handwriting is not what it used to be. The following blog post is written by hand.

For people who use a screen reader or are unable read my handwriting:
I am sitting on a bus while writing this.
It’s a “Life” notebook I got from Japan.
Writing by hand is a concious (Not sure if written correctly) effort. You
have to think before you write.…
Task management is an underestimated aspect of project and self-management. Self-management not in psychological sense, but about managing your personal resources.
I have to admin that this topic sounds boring, but I gave my best to write an engaging and insightful post.
Over the years I tried various ways of managing task in very different settings. Depending on if you are working in…
or at least a few pages. What is the “Magnifica Humanitas” you rightfully ask. The Magnifica Humanitas is a document about safeguarding the human person in the time of artifical intelligence published by the Holy See. And it might be the very reason I re-join the catholic church.
Before I read the document I heard about Vatican washing. In a decline of relevance they make bold…
I use restic to backup data on servers. It is a great tool and manages the entire lifecycle of a backup. In restic a backup job produces a snapshot. Files in snapshots are deduplicated and compressed.Back rotation can be setup on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis. If restic compresses and dedups files, does it makes sense to zip backup files beforehand?
I had to answer this question,…
Something peculiar happened, the biggest search monopolist Google decided to show ai summaries instead of search results. For years the search engine acted as a platform for advertisers and seekers. Now, the act is over and the emperor stands without clothes.
The open web where people share knowledge, data and code is very dear to me. I came in touch with the internet when search engines…
I recently wrote that I started using RSS again . To be sure that the feed of this site works, I subscribed to my own blog posts. When I open the post in the RSS reader it only shows the introduction of the post.
The problem is already known to Hugo. The solution is to add a RSS feed template file to the theme . So I copied the official RSS template , pasted it into…
I would like to share some thoughts on the future of economics, business and enterprises. A few days ago I attended the Doughnut Economic Circus . It was fantastic and I enjoyed every moment of it. There is still a lot to metabolize and this post is my first try.
But first a disclaimer: If you haven’t heard about Doughnut Economics the following content is missing context. So read…
I use arch btw and Arch is the best are obnoxious ways to tell somebody that you are using the Arch Linux distribution on your computer. Arch users also claim that their distro is superior to other distros. Sure, they’re just silly memes - but, they’re the reason I even looked into Arch in the first place.
It led me to install Arch on my Tuxedo InfinityBook (which btw is the best…
The Dispossessed is a science fiction book by Ursula K. Le Guin. But it is not science fiction as you’d expect. It is about two worlds Anarres and Urras with opposing economic and ideological structures. Science fiction provides the conditions that make this story possible.
When I started reading the book I could hardly finish the first chapter and put the book aside for quite some…
With Strudel you can turn code in to music. And no, this is not about generating music with ai. It takes a real djane such as DJ_Dave to make music from code. The Strudel community is vivid. Their music is shared on Bandcamp and other platforms.
The latest track by DJ_Dave is “Fail-safe”. To share the track on my Hugo website, I created a shortcode. Here is the result:

Every blogger and reader of blogs knows about RSS . It enables subscribing to a website and receive updates to an inbox (RSS reader) since 1999. In terms of internet standards that makes it very old.
RSS has been proclaimed to be dead many times. Popular RSS readers have come and gone. But it seems RSS will surpass us.
Just recently I started using the Nextcloud News app to subscribe…
In two days I had two customers that sent me a zip file containing an Odoo module and asked to install it on their server. This is new and for some reason made me angry.
Developing Odoo modules and maintaining them over many Odoo versions is what I am doing as an Odoo developer for the past six year. My experience and learning from others has been accumulated into many best practices and…
Last Friday I added the terminal navigation. In the meantime I have added a few more commands.
 These are the new commands:

rg <pattern> : Opens the search page passes the pattern as search term.
cd footer : Lists navigation items of the footer.
 quit/q : Close the window.
 doom : Play doom.

Inspired by my brothers new navigation I created my own custom navigation. In fact it is already live on my website. Once I my brother sees it, he will roll his eyes and think “What else did I expect!”. The new navigation is a terminal prompt!
Here is a recap of how I built the new navigation.
 Specification
My initial thought was to simply show a a terminal screen…
I wasn’t sure if I should write this post in English or German. “Sonntagszopf” literally translated means “sunday braid”. It is a type of bread also known as “Zopf” and it seems there is an English translation of the Wikipedia entry .
First you have to know, that I never have baked a bread. That is until last Sunday. Last Sunday I decided, as the the…
Today I spent the full morning in the coworking space that I mentioned last week . What I really liked is not the coworking space itself, but going there.
I live very close to the coworking. This morning I took the bicycle. The weather was fine. The air was cold. The short trip woke me up. It is only about 1 km to get there, but this short trip felt really refreshing.
 Maybe this whole…
As everybody knows (at least in he Kubernetes realm) the Ingress NGINX controller is no longer receiving security patches and has been archived. It is recommended to use the new API Gateway instead of Ingress resources. This transition takes time and in the meantime the Ingress NGINX requires a replacement.
There are many Ingress controllers to choose from:

 HAProxy Ingress

This blog post was created using Hugo and the new.css theme that I am developing. When sharing posts on Mastodon, you get a nice preview for links. This is possible by adding OpenGraph meta tags to the html document. In Mastodon you also have the creator tag.
The process on how to get the attribution as creator is described here: https://fosstodon.org/settings/verification
 Basically…
I got slopped on SlopHub. Somebody opened a vibe coded PR on one of my companies repos. The PR is totally overloaded and huge wall of text. So far the new normal. To make things worse Slopilot entered the stage.
The PR in question is https://github.com/Mint-System/Odoo-Apps-Server-Tools/pull/19
In the conversation log it states:

Copilot (AI) Review requested due to…
Two times a week I am working in Altdorf and the other days I am working from home in Sarnen. Working from home has its perks, especially when being a parent. I can share dinner and tea time with my child. However, I do not have a private office room at home. The room I am working is called the “children’s bureau”. In my (recent) experience it is better to separate the private…
In 2017 I migrated from KeePass to Pass and now migrated back to KeePassXC. For almost 9 years I was a happy pass user. It still does a very good job and keeping password management simple. But setting up pass on a new device was always a bit difficult.
Whenever I wanted to access my passwords on a new deceive I had to:

Get ssh key to clone the pass repo
 Import the pgp key…
There is a todo item on my list that takes the record for staying the longest:

 Setup Sway

For a while now, I wanted to give Sway a (S)way. Sway is a window manager where you use your keyboard to move windows and adjust their size.
But setting up a new window manager such as this one (there is also Hyprland and many more) requires some time off.
 I decided to go…
To know how to git is to know pain. I wouldn’t describe myself as a master of git. Never done the bisect and rebase onto stuff. Because git is my daily driver on the command line I am always interested to learn how to use it better.
One thing that seems to be a good fit for git is jujutsu. It showed up in my feed once again.
In software engineering git has become single most…

I stumbled upon https://100daystooffload.com/ and I am thinking of taking this challenge.
Blogging always helped me to shape my ideas and filter out unnecessary things. But before starting the challenge I want to collect some ideas.
A list of inputs for the challenge:

The headline of these #100daystooffload posts could be tooted on my mastodon account.

No Aprils fool here. Instead you get the instructions to run opencode with Infomaniak AI Tools .
 Setup Infomaniak
If not already done, create an API token here .
Select “ai-tools” for scope. Then open a shell and export the API token:
 export API_TOKEN = '******'
Now we can get info on the AI service with this curl request:
 curl -G \
 -H…
In the last few days I tinkered with Cortecs and OpenCode . It seems LLM agents are here to stay and I need to deal with them. I admit that I am very skeptic of the AI hype. However, I see a lot of benefits when working with LLM agents in a controlled environment.
People have built great tools and practices. There are many providers that host LLMs or route between multiple providers. The…
This post is about enshittification and the decay of the creative web as we know it. It is also about owning and paying your fair share to music artists. I try to recall my last 20 years of listening to music and give some advice for the future.
 2007 - Success of .mp3
 Setup
Back in 2007 I had a Windows 7 computer and music library was stored on it. The library was synced with…
In 2025 I read 9 books and 4 Mangas. As we move towards a more federated and decentralized internet, I now track my reading habits with Bookwyrm . Please join the fediverse and follow me via Bookwyrm.
My favorite book was Unsong by Scott Alexander.

In the last post I showed how you can build a Docker image in a Kubernetes cluster using with Forgejo runner. One missing step was the actual deployment of the new Docker image.
In the context of Kubernetes to deploy means to update a deployment config and thus restart the life cycle of pods. There are many ways to do that. The simplest way is to kill a pod. If the imagePullPolicy of a…
In my post about migrating from GitHub to Codeberg I was not able to find a suitable alternative for GitHub actions. With GitHub actions I built and published Docker images. Since the migration I was able find solution.
The solution is a Forgejo runner deployed to a private Kubernetes cluster. It is connected to Codeberg and runs my actions the same way as it did on GitHub. Let me walk you…
