The other day I posted something simply with the intention of sharing. It felt so weird that I almost deleted it immediately.
It is okay to tell the story of my life even if the only ROI is joy and connection.
I have built a career on providing services and solutions. My content is centered around giving people something that adds value. So much so that when it comes to the real in-person joys of my life, I keep them to myself, because I’ve trained my mind to believe that “just sharing” has no value in my business model.
I asked Cree, my husband, “what’s the point of the post, ya know?” Meaning, why would people care.
He replied quickly. “You’re just sharing, Janesha.”
That’s stayed with me for days.
I have always attached myself to the conviction to create solutions for people, because I know they have a hard time doing certain things. The struggle to get dressed. The missing motivation to move their bodies. The lack of education to build a business.
But this year has felt like a new season, where it is okay for me to simply exist and share too. That feels odd. That feels presumptuous of me, to think people care enough to simply listen to me talk. I have always reserved that for friends and family only. But there’s beauty in the life moments.
Some of my favorite creators simply share. Their heart, their thoughts, their minds, without the stress to monetize. What an interesting perspective.
Even if I’m doing an unassuming Sunday diaries life recap, I can guarantee that I’ve thought about how people can buy the items I have on my body, because I know they will ask. My affiliations and automations are ON.
I know how to generate money doing anything. But lately I’ve been searching for ways to share without attaching a workflow to it. To just let my heart flow. I desire to connect deeper with the community I’ve spent many years building and gathering.
This is a part of my journey. It’s been gnawing at me for years, this yearning for words written and stories told. But I saw how effective my strategies were to monetize. And I knew I had things to pay for, so I convinced myself this was the only route.
But how romantic of God to create a life for me that grows and blossoms. And now He just needs my courage, to be reminded that it’s all a part of why He made me. It’s okay to balance both. I take joy now knowing that I can both sell a dress and tell my testimony.
My affirmation to self: it is okay to tell the story of my life even if the only ROI is joy and connection. You are alright to tell your stories.
Idk if this was for you. It was a lot of what I needed. So I just wanted to share.
Commit to the call.
Xoxo.
