Money is at the heart of every effort to block climate progress, that’s just the reality of the fight we’re in. Big Industry and Big Oil have the cash-on-hand to buy candidates, prevent legislation, and crush climate action with endless lawsuits and back-door deals.
That’s why right now, Michiganders are fighting back with people-powered legislation to keep money out of politics in the Wolverine State.
You’re used to seeing JanePAC elevate and support climate candidates, but we also back legislative campaigns that impact the climate fight, and we’re all in for Mop Up Michigan. This grassroots effort to put a money-out-of-politics initiative on the November 2026 ballot has the potential to change the game in our fight for the planet.
The Mop Up Michigan ballot initiative would:
Prohibit regulated local utilities — like DTE Energy and Consumers Energy — from donating to state political campaigns.
Ban corporations with state contracts worth more than $250,000 (like Blue Cross Blue Shield or AT&T) from donating to the officials who oversee or award those contracts.
Require full donor disclosure for political ads that attack/support a candidate running within 100 days of a general election.
The money Big Business throws around consistently leaves working people in the trenches of the climate fight, while corporations walk away with big payouts — and Michigan is sick of it. This grassroots effort is a chance to clean up the back-door deals and shady money that slow down climate progress in favor of Big Industry.
The Mop Up Michigan team needs to collect 356,958 valid signatures to get their proposal on the November 2026 ballot, but getting those signatures takes time and resources.
That’s where we come in.
You can help JanePAC by donating directly to Mop Up Michigan’s campaign, and by spreading the word about the work they’re doing to keep money out of politics. Grassroots is all about the collective “we” doing our small part — so even $10 from a JanePAC ally in Boston, or Santa Fe, goes such a long way to the organizers on the ground.
