“What will more intelligence actually do for us?” - Noah Smith. What if “AGI” looks less and less like 1000 IQ and more like the infinite monkeys with typewriters than eventfully write Shakespeare? Good piece in which Noah argues that unlocking the true benefits of AI is probably less about intelligence and more about infrastructure.
“The project of software is complete” - Freddie deBoer. I’m fairly certain that I disagree with this fundamental premise of this post, but it is seriously thought provoking, and as always with FdB, a very fun and entertaining read.
“No data centers in my backyard” - Jasmine Sun. Data centres are a touchy political and social topic right now, to say the least. I sense though that so many people online are arguing about data centres, without really understanding what they are, how they work, what they look like, how they get built, how they are funded and so on and so forth. This is brilliant “both sides” reporting, and I came away from the piece feeling far more informed. Go read it!
