Too Damn Close

Thunder rumbled only a second after the lightning lit everything up.

“Too damn close,” Will muttered.

Hannah didn’t respond. Her attention was on the pouring rain.

Or what was moving within the pouring rain.

“On our ten.”

Will whipped his head about too fast, shaking the blind the two were hiding inside.

The movement in the rain stopped. Turned. Stared.

“You idiot,” Hannah whispered. “You drew their attention.”

Will gulped. It was the last thing he did before Hannah slit his throat.

The warm blood steamed in the cold air as Hannah backed out of the hide, stood, and ran.
