February, 2017. For those not in the know, Neon Joe Werewolf Hunter is a show I made for Adult Swim that is basically about what the title suggests: a guy who wears neon and hunts werewolves. He also says “he-yump” a lot.
It was originally discussed as a completely fake idea being passed off as real, when I appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in 2012 to promote the series finale of my other Adult Swim show, Delocated.
For talk show appearances, I prefer to come up with some kind of comedy bit as opposed to doing a straight segment, mostly to amuse myself and avoid the general boredom of promoting something over and over again.
For this appearance I arbitrarily paired two items of clothing I owned at the time, that I used for a couple live bits I did at comedy shows. One was a neon yellow hoodie and matching knit cap from the heyday of American Apparel. The other, a pair of Coors Light sweatpants.
The neon stuff was from a bit that was actually called Neon Joe, but he was a performance artist who wore all neon, and instead of performing, just did a Q&A with the audience about his neon outfit. The Coors Light pants were from a bit called Beer Joe, who was a Weird Al-type song-parody act, but all of his song parodies were about beer. He performed wasted and eventually broke down crying in the middle of a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” parody called “Bro’s Just Wanna Watch Sports”, and asked the MC if he was a good dad. Both bits were as stupid as they sounded.
