Jacob Garchik · Macrotones

I’m playing at Barbes on Sunday, March 15 at 8pm.
Music inspired by Ginuwine, Phillip Glass, Sonny Rollins, and Leon Parker.

Jacob Garchik - trombone

Hannah Marks - bass

Tomas Fujiwara - drums

This will make an appearance. Always good to have some mutes.

You can also catch me on March 12 at Roulette, at Bob Stewart’s 81st Birthday Celebration.
Three albums which made a big impression on me as a teenager where Bill Frisell’s Rambler (1985), Lester Bowie Brass Fantasy’s Avant Pop (1986), and Arthur Blythe’s Illusions (1980), which I checked out on LP from the SF Public Library in 1993. All featured the magnificent tuba of Bob Stewart. A low brass player with a beautiful tone, a swinging pocket, at home in any setting no matter how unconventional, playing alongside some of the most cutting edge musicians on the scene. It made me feel like there might be a place for me.

I don’t know what kind of fucked up electronics he’s using on “B funk”, but I declare it to be the funkiest tuba bass line ever recorded.

I’ll be playing the music of Very Very Circus, Threadgill’s 90s band which featured two tubas. The band didn’t have Bob, but could not have existed without Bob.
