There’s something spooky about The Custodians. Book 2 follows the same formula as Book 1.
I begin by mapping out the plot, building in subplots, then hunting for historical accuracy. Would GIs still be in France after WWII? Would they be on special ops? Every single time, the facts back up the plot. Often with really bizarre details, as if I dug first, then built the books around declassified info. The evidence is buried in old Substacks or abandoned blogs, and Claude is brilliant at teasing obscure archives out.
So I’m deep in conspiracy, navigating two timelines: 2019-contemporary and 1945-1970s, with a focus on the 1950’s and the height of the Cold War. What on earth could the Cold War have to do with Nazis smuggled into the US through Operation Paperclip? As it turns out … a lot.
How this affects the main characters … is where I’m currently at.
