The world is confusing.

It has always been confusing. But these days we are inundated with so much information, advice, insight, thoughts, products and worldviews it is almost impossible to sift through it all and find something worth listening to.

If you are surrounded by sound, encompassed by a cacophony of chatter, how do you stay sane?

Personally, I seek silence.

I prioritise the things that offer me a break from the endless stream of sensory stimulus.

I exercise, cook, meditate, read, clean and spend time in nature.

And, perhaps more importantly, I make sure they are omnipresent in my life.

I turn to them not as salves or escapes, but as practices essential in staying connected to myself.

It is not about doing what someone else says, nor creating a regimented routine to strictly adhere to from today and until your last day.

It is about finding what makes you…you. About recognising there is a part of you which does not seek or worry or fret, and finding ways to commune with it regularly.

It is a deep, personal remembering.

We all have different ways of doing this; what works for one will not work for all (something instagram does not tell us).

The world is confusing, loud and chaotic.

I try and find steadiness, silence and space.
