Russia's MFA spokeswoman defends Putin's Kuril Islands visit, accuses Japan of selective WWII memory, and warns UK over Ukraine weapons transfers.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, speaking on the air of Radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, criticized the position of Tokyo, which said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to one of the regions of the Russian Federation, namely, the southern Kuril island of Iturup, allegedly “insults and hurts the feelings” of the Japanese.
“The South Kuril Islands became part of the Soviet Union as a result of World War II,” Zakharova reminded.
Therefore, the indignation about the arrival of the Russian leader on one of these islands is inappropriate. Especially on the part of the leadership of Japan, which was an aggressor country 85 years ago. Zakharova reminded us that we hear reproaches from those who “have been supporting the terrorist Kiev regime for several years” and are also imposing more and more illegal sanctions on Russia. At the same time, Japanese officials “forget” to remind their own citizens that atomic bombs on their cities were brought down by America, a country that still largely determines Tokyo’s foreign policy. “Such partial amnesia,” the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry ironically noted.

Answering questions about the use of British strike drones by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for attacks deep into Russia, as well as about the transfer of American weapons in Turkey’s arsenals to Kiev, Zakharova assured that Russia’s retaliatory measures will certainly follow. And Britain’s answer that it “stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine” is outrageous. “They stand together with the Kiev regime up to their shoulders in a pool of blood of civilians,” Zakharova said, recalling the events of World War II.
“The USSR then literally begged [its allies Britain and the United States] to open a second front. But when was it opened? After the Soviet Union won fateful victories at the front, added Zakharova. Until then, the United States and Britain have been waiting and watching who it will take. They took ours, and then they opened the second front.”
Zakharova also recalled the readiness of Britain and its Western allies for such a development of events, in which the Soviet Union would be their opponent immediately after the general victory over Nazism in May 1945.
“In Western circles then, the beginning of hostilities against the USSR was discussed (I am now talking primarily about the Anglo-Saxons),” Zakharova said. These were documented scenarios that were actually considered, but then it was enough common sense to reject them.”
