Interior Notes: The Shopping List #19

As an Interior Designer, I’m like a magpie - and as my budget nor space is infinite, I best share these finds so they go to a good home. I try to keep to antique/vintage or small businesses (as let’s be honest, the big guys don’t need help).

1. I tend to write this Substack on a Friday as it’s when a lot of antique dealers email their weekly latest launches. This vintage Murano light from Passé The Store (I mention them quite a lot, so many good things) was the standout piece in my inbox this morning, just imagine how great it’d look in a hallway or even over a dining table.

   

2. I love the detailing on this sideboard, how cool would it be in a hallway next to the front door?

   

3. I’ve been on the hunt for a coffee table for my family room to replace the play table my kids have been surgically attached to. The illusive search is still going on - I want something wooden, a very particular size, that isn’t teak but needs a flat enough surface to accommodate Lego and all the other gubbins kids play with. This is my favourite reject, chunky and substantial, it will instantly make your room better.

   

4. For anyone who reads my shopping lists, you’ll know I’m a fan of brutalist furniture. I find it’s so useful to ground a room and I love the chunkiness of it. This amazing dresser unit caught my eye on Four Quarter’s site (they have a LOT of good stuff) - I’d love to see this in a kitchen instead of cupboards, it’d immediately stop everything feeling too new.

   

5. Loved this mirror from The Peanut Vendor, would work in almost all spaces and would be one of those heirloom purchases that travel with you from home to home.

   

6. As someone who has a lot of magazines, I'm quite fond of a magazine rack to keep things in order! This wooden one would certainly fit the bill.

   

7. This rug would be so great in a kid’s room - it’d be lovely when they’re little, but could also grow with them and would be easy to clean as it’s low pile and wool. Believe me, this a lesson I’ve most definitely learned since having my kids, the cute fluffy rug looks adorable until someone’s sick on it or you stand on a piece of lego hidden in the depths of the fluff.

   

8. Sorry about this lamp as it’s heinously expensive, BUT great inspiration for mixed metals on a lamp.

   

9. I love a chair or stool in a bathroom and this little one would be perfect.

   

10. Finally, the budget buster. If you want to invest in a chest of drawers that doubles as a work of art, this Vivai Del Sud one is so cool. It’d certainly make a statement, and I think would work equally in a pared back or maximalist space.
