As August begins, we are looking to raise awareness of the emergency management profession during National Emergency Management Awareness Month. It will be a month of reflecting on the importance of preparedness and funding in the EM field. As we spotlight our profession this summer, we encourage all emergency managers to share stories and experiences. Show why this profession matters now more than ever.
Please spend some time this month educating your local, state, tribal, territorial and federal officials, including elected officials on the value emergency managers deliver to the communities they serve.
There are a number of resources available to support outreach efforts including graphics, messages, message templates, and a powerful video to share.
I’m looking forward to seeing your stories on the social media platform of your choice. #IAmEM #EMAwarenessMonth #KnowYourEmergencyManager
I’d also ask IAEM R9 members to take a few minutes to vote for IAEM-USA Region 9 President. You should have received voting information this morning, along with a unique link and information on the two candidates. Dave Fogerson is a highly qualified, and experienced emergency management professional based in Nevada with decades of experience in the local, state, non-profit and private sector. I’m hoping that you’ll take the time to vote for either him or me to make sure that your voice is heard in selecting the next President of IAEM R9. We are both looking to build on the amazing work that the R9 Team did under our past president Todd De Voe, who will be our next IAEM-USA First Vice President.
And, please don’t forget to vote for the IAEM-USA Second Vice President and Treasurer. The ballot will remain open until Tuesday 2 September at 5 pm EDT.
