every line I read reminds me of you
fire alarm
It’s my own fault it got to this point—
waking up in the middle of the night
again. The chirping started a
fortnight ago but it’s too dark to get
up and change it—I’m too tired.
It’s annoying but the longer I wait,
eventually it’ll quiet down. There’s
no point in fixing it right now.
at about 12:47am, the beeping
begins again after ceasing. I try
again—scratch my thumb and chip my nail
as I open the little door and
successfully change the battery.
I think the beeping has ended for
now.
You will haunt me everywhere. When I’m getting ready in the morning, applying deodorant or taking my medicine, I search for your damp hair. I look to see if your reflection is in the mirror, watching me get ready.
