Natalia Quintero Ochoa · how to wear it

Dearest Reader,

This may be the most exciting Books & Looks letter I’ve sent, and certainly the most personal. It will become quite obvious from what I wore (and read!) last month that I’m pregnant, and due with a baby girl in November.

It’s hard to put into words how excited I am to be on this journey, and even more so to finally share it with you. There’s so much I want to say about getting dressed while pregnant, and I promise I will. But for today, I’m sharing everything I read this month (some baby books, some not), along with the last of my bump-hiding outfits and the first of my “ok, she’s pregnant!” looks.

I’m so honored to share this season of life with you, and so excited for what’s to come.

All my best,
Natalia

I read two books by Ann Patchett in July (they were also my first books by her). Wow, I can’t believe it took me this long to get to her writing. I preferred Commonwealth to her newest, Whistler, becuase of the layered storytelling and character development. I felt so immersed in this book, and brought it with me everywhere so I could sneak in a few pages of reading anytime I could.
Whistler was my second Ann Patchett read of July. This is a sweet, touching book, and her writing is spectacular.
If you Google “books to read when pregnant,” Expecting Better (Emily Oster) usually shows up as one of the first recs. It was interesting to read and get the perspective of an economist.

First up: a few looks where I could still hide the bump.

Look Three

In my last letter, I shared that I’m driving out to my sister’s place once a week to work from her apartment. It’s become the highlight of my week. Wore this AMO tshirt and jeans look to her place, and brought along my Frank & Eileen cozy oversized sweater for the AC blasts (on sale, I wear a small).
What’s in my bag: two books (one for fun, one for baby prep), headphones, my Louise Carmen journal cover that’s packed with two Moleskines, an Oak Essentials travel pouch filled with gum, spf, hand lotion, etc, and my on-the-go makeup routine from Merit (tinted SPF, mascara, and lip oil).

Look Four

And just like that, as soon as I hit the last week of July, hiding the bump became impossible! Leaning into getting dressed with this growing bump (and boobs haha).

Look Five

Let’s talk tshirt and denim details. The team at Plain White Tshirt let me choose one of their tshirts to try, and I went for this one called the Shortie Sleeve Tee. It’s your classic white tshirt in terms of collar, sleeve length, and cut. I’m so impressed by the quality and the way it fits. I sized up to a medium for maximum bump coverage, but if we aren’t in the same boat, stick to your true size. The jeans are maternity jeans from H&M, and hands down the best pregnancy purchase I’ve made. They have subtle, concealed elastic inside the waistband that adjusts as your bump grows, so you simply wear them a little lower in the front. They fit and feel like regular jeans—no sagging in the back or awkward gaping. This pair has a looser, longer leg, but I’ve also linked a cropped straight-leg version in white below. I took my pre-pregnancy size.

The dresses are coming out!! Wearing a Sezane dress for lunch in LA. Tried this with sandals but it felt too feminie, so I went for all black leather accessories for a little more edge.
Yes, I will hold the bump in all pics now!!!! So excited to share this journey with you all now. Thank you so much for being here. Xx
