Stacia · How to Change Your Mind

I haven’t published anything for a while, and now the first thing I am inspired to share is of a very personal nature.

After recently becoming single again, I wrote this letter to my future husband because I want a clear vision of what he will feel like.

I’m sharing it for all those like myself who are still looking for their person later in life than they’d expected.

Perhaps it will awaken some dormant romantics. I urge you not to let cynicism take over. May you feel seen, inspired, and perhaps find hope in these words, if you had lost it.

Dear Husband,

I felt the thrill of you as I wrote those words.

What can I say now, finally standing here in front of you?

You feel like the answer to a question I’ve asked for so long.

In your absence, I grew up.

I learned to take care of myself. I found friends and learned skills and built a life.

I was happy.

I got hurt.

I hurt others.

I’ve been searching and preparing myself for you,

But I could not wait - I had to live.

Why did it take so long to find you?

These many years, there were moments I lost faith and gave up hope.

But in hindsight, you were inevitable.

Now here we are, face to face, almost touching.

I want to have it all with you.

There’s a responsibility and a gift we’ve carried alone, and now we carry it between us.

As you hold it with me, I can feel that you are a good and stable partner.

My joy is magnified in your presence. My confidence expands.

We are open-minded and hold strong convictions.

We do the right thing and don’t bend under pressure.

We are sincere.

We seek truth.

We love people.

We keep raising our standards, and help to hold each other to them.

You defend me from darkness.

I think to myself: the world needs more humans like this man.

I possess a portal, and I’ve never used it.

It connects to the spirit world where our children wait.

I’ll carry them into this temporal dimension.

We’ll impart the blessings of our ancestors.

Warmth, unconditional love and safety will be normal for them.

They will be integrated into our lives and work.

You’ll model the masculine, I’ll model the feminine,

And the suffering of our lives will be transmuted into lessons we can impart.

We will give them a container to challenge themselves, to fail and recover.

May they iterate and far surpass us.

The world is changing fast.

There is danger and uncertainty and unlimited potential.

So we will create a place together that is warm and good, a place where people want to be.

We will gather a global community bound by shared purpose.

Guided by God’s perfect design,

Our impact will compound and propagate into infinite games.

I had never met you and then one day you entered my life.

You tamed me and became irreplaceable.

Now you are my constant. Wherever you are, that is my home.

You provide for and inspire me.

You are deep and wide and always expanding.

I will spend years exploring your vastness.

I choose you again and again.

I respect you more than anyone.

You feel like peace.

We have lived many lives apart, and now we will live many more together.

I overflow with gratitude.

A big thank you to the friends who gave feedback and helped me get the courage to publish this. Hearing the ways it affected some of you made me feel like it was worth sharing.

Please let me know in the comments if anything resonated with you.
