What a party!
Friday the StandPoint group of artists opened their 'Pop Art' Show at the Kingston Pop Museum on Broadway in… what else… but Kingston NY. StandPoint describes the perspective that each participating artist brings as they address a common theme; usually a specific figurative pose and/or a still life or, alternatively, animals or portraits. This show was conceived to work with the style of the venue; The Kingston Pop Museum. The participants would all bring out their inner Peter Max… or Worhol… or Lichtenstein. The work in it would celebrate the brilliance and fancy of the Pop era.
The Museum's director, John Stavros energized the show with his enthusiasm and hipster style that he got from his years in New York working with Andy Worhol. John arranged for music and then decorated the street in front of the museum with a hippy-clad VW vintage microbus.
There was quite a crowd. People connected with the art and with each other. Many danced to the grooving band that closed out the evening.
In my view an art show should be a cultural event that welcomes everyone, presents a set of ideas as objects of beauty to be considered, and then inspires the participants. Art exhibits should be memorable events that excite and invigorate. Too many art shows simply put works on walls as if they were a pop-up marketplace to hawk art. No pizazz. Missing is the cultural exchange and the education that happens with good art in an energized setting. The StandPoint opening last night was a cultural phenom with loads of energy. It made this artist very pleased to be a participant.

Thanks to Shiwanti, owner of the Cinnamon restaurant in Rhinebeck, NY, for donating scrumptious food, to my fellow artists in the show for the great comradery, and to all who came and made the event so 'hap'nin. It's rare to participate in a event this good. I feel blessed.
