Helsinki Here We Come

Housekeeping: It’s been a while since my last post. 2025 was a very busy year and ‘26 is shaping up to be the same. That said, I will begin posting new work soon. Plans are to do three types of posts; topical pieces as I have done in the past, a series of critical/philosophical analyses of contemporary art, and a set of poems called ‘Pissed Off Poems’ which will be on its own Substack page beginning in March here.

This first post of 2026 is a notice about an event set to happen in Finland next week. Read on...

On February 28th I will attend an event in Helsinki where my painting called The Last Supper will be auctioned off for the benefit of a friend of mine named Mika Vauhkala.

This story started in late May 2024 when I took The Last Supper to a rally at the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva to help generate discussion about the current state of humanity and the trajectory we are on for the future. It was displayed in the Place de Nations on June 1st when prominent health experts and political dissidents challenged the WHO’s intention to consolidate powers it should never possess –– one of which was the ability to seize control of any nation on Earth during a declared health emergency and remove all democratic agency from its citizens. Aside from the fact that power of this kind is not necessary for promoting health safety for humans, the WHO is riven with severely conflicted interests and has mismanaged several aspects of global health, the most egregious being the Covid 19 emergency. To push back against the WHO’s disastrous policies and overreach of power, a few of us, representing the global citizenry, gathered in Geneva to voice our concerns.

I am in the camp that asserts that health is best managed locally, that responses to emergencies should be dynamic and tailored for conditions specific to local circumstances, and that decision-makers should be held responsible when things go wrong. The intention of the Geneva rally was aligned with these ideas and I was honored to be invited to join. The Last Supper added a cultural dimension to the event and sparked some thoughtful conversation in the crowd.

One of the participants in this event was Mika Vauhkala, a young Finnish man who had waged a court fight challenging a mandated health pass in Finland. He was in Geneva to highlight the excessive power his government had assumed for itself during the Covid crises and to make a case for limiting government authority over citizens.

This is his story:

In 2022, a perfectly healthy Mika entered a coffee shop for a croissant and a cup of coffee. He was refused service because he lacked a Covid pass which was mandated by the Finish government for public venues. Alarmed by the abuse of his basic rights and the absence of reason for the policy Mika sued both the coffee shop and the government of Finland. His suit asserted that governments may not compel medical procedures upon citizens nor may they compel perfectly healthy people to carry documents proving compliance if they pose no threat to public health. The suit presumed the idea that quarantine should be limited to the infirm as had been the case for the 100 years before Covid.

To prevail would be a step in defining and limiting the powers of authorities over people. Predictably, the Finnish government retaliated with costly legal actions and fines that have become onerous to Mika over the years.

Mika now owes hundreds of thousands of Euros in fines and legal fees. He needs help if he is to survive the expensive and vengeful government actions against him and to bring his lawsuit to its conclusion. When he told me that he was having an art auction to raise funds I offered him The Last Supper. The Last Supper has sufficient gravitas and scale to command a significant price and aligns well with his purpose in placing a spotlight on government activity that conflicts with human rights and liberties. I am happy to assist in his cause.

Mika’s event will be broadcast internationally in a venue that will allow The Last Supper to achieve its intended effect which is to promote discussions about power, humanity’s future, sin, and redemption. Helping a friend is a rewarding bonus. I hope that whoever buys The Last Supper will further its purpose by exhibiting it widely.

It is about engineered scarcity and excess.
It is about corrupted humans and the possibility of redemption.
It is about the technocrats running the show.
It is a feast of choices, options and decisions.
It is about accounting for sin.
It is about a precious world wasting away under a global reset.
It is an homage to the mystery and the divine.
It is a message to gamblers and high-stakes risk-takers.
It is a gathering of uncultured sophistocrats.
It is alpha encountering omega; a killer on the left and a shooter on the right.
It is missing the essential Host and welcomes the traitor... the useless eater...
	screaming.
It is a quiet reminder that we are thinking, sovereign beings.
It is the urgency of fixing a fallen human condition and how...
	We must consider our trajectory and ask...
	Does our path lead to a divine conclusion,
	Or to a feast of our own making...
	To our own Last Supper?
