When the path becomes narrow

Something profound happens when we choose to become the woman we were designed to be.

When we have taken enough missteps and lived through enough course corrections that the things standing in the way of our fullest expression start to dissipate.

It’s not that we don’t make mistakes any longer, but the time it takes to recognize a pattern and steer the rudder back to true north gets shorter, and less dramatic.

I remember when I was learning to sail, I always preferred to tacking, turning the bow through the wind, over gybing, where the stern swings through and the boom can take you out if you’re not paying attention.

Tacking felt steady, forgiving and controlled.

Gybing felt wild, unpredictable and high stakes.

And yet, on the path of my own life, I found myself gybing more often than I’d like to admit.

White-knuckling every turn, bracing for impact, believing that intensity was just part of the journey.

Believing I had to navigate it all alone.

This is not to say that going down the ‘wrong’ path for any amount of time is a waste of time.

We are always learning, and sometimes this is what it takes to learn the biggest lessons that we came here to learn.

This is what maidenhood is here to show us.

It’s initiation, how we lose ourselves so that we can recognize what it feels like to return.

But at some point, the hamster wheel gets a little old, doesn’t it?

And that’s when we start to long for something more aligned, and start stepping into the shoes that were designed for us to walk in.

When we do, the path ahead begins to feel more expansive than ever, while simultaneously being narrower than it has ever been.

Is it comfortable to step into this level of maturity?

Nope.

It is definitely not comfortable to be squeezed through a passage until all of the extra baggage falls out and gets thrown overboard.

Discernment gets sharpened.

We learn how to notice when things are delivered for us, and very importantly, when things are not for us, but sent by a relentlessly insatiable enemy.

There are often a few surprises and some loss along the way.

It stings, and brings us to our knees.

For many, this is precisely where we need to go to find the way out.

We may be asked to give up relationships, habits, and patterns that have kept us safe.

We may also be asked to walk toward something that we have been avoiding our entire lives.

The good news: this level of clarity comes not from doing more, pushing harder, and being a try-hard, as many of us have been conditioned to operate.

It comes from being more, listening deeply, and surrendering.

By welcoming humility, and an openness to receiving Truth even if it temporarily costs us our comfort.

Because if we’re devoted, then short-term discomfort eventually turns into long-term spaciousness, aliveness and purpose.

So, are we willing to stay the course?

Because when we land at a stable plateau, we become aware that we are standing right where we are meant to be, and we continue to remember that more often than we slip into forgetfulness.

This fosters a level of precision that changes the entire landscape of womanhood.

We enter the kingdom of Truth, from which we move, speak, and exist; dismantling illusions before our very eyes.

We move slower and at the pace of nature, knowing that the way will appear if we just leave some space for it.

We start to attract what is for us in big and small ways, and we learn that it is only for us insomuch as it is for something much bigger than us.

Our prayers expand from narrow requests for our own life, comfort and protection into powerful intercession for people who may never know us, and even people who dislike us.

From the seat of our belonging, we get to claim our joy, pleasure, and creativity unapologetically.

We walk the earth standing tall, with a strong straight spine, and a wide open heart that does not hide it’s many scars, yet still says; I am here to love.

You know what I’m talking about, right?

When you meet a woman who embodies this unique fingerprint of energy, you feel it.

It’s sweet like honey, and mysterious like rain 🍯🌧️

We are taught an inversion; to feel jealous of such a woman.

Men and women alike are taught to covet her, take from her, drain her, disrespect her, and tell her that she is too much.

The irony is that the same people who say you are too much, are often the ones who are unconsciously syphoning energy from your well.

It rests upon the lie that there is not ‘enough space’ for us all to shine. It is a lie that keeps us small.

The darkness that we see in this world relies on us turning our brightness all the way down.

And here’s the thing…

It requires a certain kind of unfuckablewithness to hold this down in today’s society.

It asks for courage and strong boundaries.

Most importantly, it asks for a deep devotion to an authority above oneself.

When our authority is self sourced, we chase our tails in a tight spiral loop.

A battle for the soul plays out again and again.

The enemy stays close.

When we devote to an authority above oneself in true surrender, our shadows and patterns still exist and appear, but we have access to a Truth and morality that guides the way.

What if the spiral starts in the center, and winds out from there?

What if we’re not aiming for a tight spiral that is constantly turning, but an ever widening spiral that eventually becomes a straight and narrow path?

From here your grip is not so tight.

You slide into those shoes that were made for you, and you walk.
