Charisse Goforth · Holding Hope

Two weeks ago I was facing the fire. An operation with an 8 week recovery that my surgeon promised would be excruciatingly painful. SOMEHOW I wasn’t scared.

I slept through the night. I laughed with my husband as we drove the 1.5 hour trip at 5am. I lay waiting as they explained all the ugly details and yet, SOMEHOW I wasn’t scared.

I woke up from the anesthesia. Vitals were checked. Nurses popped in. Mike came and sat with me. My surgeon stopped by. I asked- “what should I expect for the rest of the day?” Four words. “A. LOT. OF. PAIN”. SOMEHOW I wasn’t scared.

And 2 weeks later, everything my surgeon said, and everything I expected and prepared for never happened. Don’t get me wrong. I have had a lot of pain, but nothing like I was told it would be. And I am sure that I am in the minority for those who have gone through this.

When I have my painful moments, I will praise Him. When tears silently roll down my cheeks, I will still praise Him and every single second I think of those who prayed for me and my God who answers, I will praise Him. I will praise and glorify Jesus with every breath that I have.

It wouldn’t make sense to anyone who doesn’t know Jesus, but it makes perfect sense to those of us who do. Because God is my “SOMEHOW” and…

When you mix a little faith with a whole lot of praying friends, God’s in the middle of that!
