Everything hit damn records yesterday. Gold ripped 4.5% to $4,255 - $1.3 trillion of market cap added in ONE day - copper printed an all-time high, S&P, Dow, and Russell all closed at ATHs, and Chinese gold ETFs just logged 14 straight days of inflows.
Then the tell: over 4 million S&P call options bought in a single day, the most EVER, and the index erased its entire gain by the close. Overnight, Asia cracked.
¥13.6 trillion wiped off Japanese stocks, KOSPI down more than 4%, led by a government that stuffed levered single-stock ETFs down retail’s throat, and Jamie Dimon picked this exact week to remind everyone margin debt is the highest it has ever been.
Records everywhere, leverage everywhere, and the exits are small. Ah, here we go again...
As I’m typing this, BTC is at $64.8K. THE level is $65,002 - there is a ninety-million-dollar reason for that exact number below - with $62.6K still the line that keeps the week alive. BTC tagged $65K at 4 am and got smacked right back down. Someone very big needs it to stay that way.
Macro is (as usual) messy af: the US pulled Iran sanctions off the Treasury website with a deal floated for this week, then Trump said he “may have to” send oil prices HIGHER.
Fed Governor Cook says she is ready to raise rates if inflation stays hot, BofA is out calling three hikes this year, yet the market has actually FADED them, September hike odds slid to ~47% from a 70% peak, and Polymarket prices it even lower at ~45%. Jobless claims this morning. Pick your poison.
Oh, and for the culture: Bank of America spends $250 million a year on GLP-1s for staff - the real AI trade was Ozempic all along. And for a laugh at the pros: JPMorgan finally turned bearish on Nike - after a 75% decline. Genius.
Crypto shenanigans: spot BTC ETFs pulled in $244 million on Wednesday - third straight green day, $626 million for the week, ETH ETFs another $61 million.
Fear and Greed printed 25 just recently - Extreme Fear - while equities blow off. Ted’s chart below says it best: the largest S&P-vs-BTC divergence in years, and a catch-up trade that has to resolve one way or the other.
We covered the $103 million cowboy short yesterday - overnight it became a $91 million short with a public stop-map, and it is THE trade of the day (next section). If CLARITY moves, it moves without the Senate: not even on this week’s schedule, keep the grind mode on Lummis.
Nevertheless, keep this in mind: the odds of passing for 2026 are currently 16%. Check the (awful) chart.

Overnight update on yesterday’s headliner: BTC tagged $65K at 4am and TOOK FOUR OF HIS STOPS. The fresh-wallet cowboy is now short 1,400 BTC ($91 million) - down from 1,600 - entry $64,202, liquidation moved to $65,002, sitting on -$887K unrealized plus $146K already realized, cutting 200 BTC.
As I’m typing this, BTC trades $162 below its liquidation price. The whole market can see the magnet; every push into $65K forces mechanical covering. I don’t copy 40x cowboys - I trade around their pain. So is everyone else. That’s why $65K is THE level again today.

Top-trader positioning flipped another notch: 1 long / 8 shorts, net short down to $155 million from $182 million - the crowded side is quietly covering. Mesky’s bull stack is the cleanest summary of what’s next: AQAv2 bid, permissionless HIP-4, and rising HIP-3 fees.
And on that last one - Ryan Watkins’ math says trimming the HIP-3 fee discount from 90% to 80% DOUBLES annualized HIP-3 revenue from $70 million to $140 million. A one-parameter revenue lever. Claude/Sol 5.6 is truly amazing for trading bc it allows you to build risk management or trading tools that were just not available to the public. Some of those tools cost over a 100k a year for a subscription to for a fund. And now you can basically have them at your fingertips
