Anthony Milian · History, Actually

The name History, Actually came out of a conversation where I found myself doing what I seem to do all the time: explaining that the story we’ve been told isn’t necessarily wrong, but it’s usually incomplete. I was explaining the context behind something when I caught myself basically saying, “Well, actually, the history is a little more complicated than that.” And that stuck with me, because it describes exactly what I want this publication to be. History is rarely as simple as the version we learned in school, the story we inherited, or the 30-second explanation we heard online. There’s almost always another person, another perspective, another document, another consequence, or another piece of context that changes how we understand what happened. So this publication is getting a new name: History, Actually. Not because I want to be the guy saying “actually…” every five seconds, but because I want this to be a place where we can dig past what we think we know and get closer to what actually happened. The past. The truth. The context.
