He asked, "Why do you live alone?

Come, make my heart your final home."

I said, "I like this solitude,

For fear has trapped my quiet mood….

Of falling from a heart so deep,

Of waking up to tears to weep,

Of watching someone's patience fade,

Of seeing where new vows are laid."

He swore, "I promise I'll stay true,

Just test me if you doubt me, too."

I said, "I do not test mankind,

For everyone is intertwined

With their own style and standard ways;

Such tests bring loss, not better days.

True love is not just won and kept,

Once felt, the soul in tears has wept…

Wholly surrendered, heart and mind,

Leaving all other thoughts behind.

Yet now I dread a borrowed place,

Where love once lived a little space,

For when they change and turn away,

It hurts too deep to softly say.

So solitude is best for me,

And that is why I choose to be."
