Go,

I set you free today…

From myself, from this love, from the memories of yesterday.

I grant you release from the depths of my own soul,

I did what I never thought I could make whole.

I erased your name from the lines of my hands,

I turned away from all the paths to your lands.

He wanted to leave,

So I let him go.

My heart tried to hold on, but even so,

I let him go.

Where there is stubbornness and compulsion's plea,

What room is there for love to be?

A bird that stays sad even outside the cage….

To set it free is the wisdom of age.

My heart is lightened of every heavy chain,

I waited so long through the sorrow and pain.

When he finally left, my breath returned anew,

The one who once praised my smile, made me weep right through.

I wept so much that every view cleared and brightened up,

Every sweet delusion shattered from the cup.

He had to leave, so he walked away….

Yes, I myself let him go today.

Author's Note

Dear reader,

Some goodbyes aren’t sudden tragedies; they are quiet realizations that holding on hurts more than letting go. Writing I Let Him Go was an exercise in untangling myself from the heavy chains of what used to be…of choosing peace over persistence, and an open sky over a gilded cage.

If these words resonated with the quiet corners of your own heart, or if you’ve ever had to find the courage to walk away from something that kept you weeping, please consider supporting my work.
