What do you know of what an empty hand means?
What do you call one who has it all, yet nothing remains?
And what is the fate of the soul so distressed,
That it cannot even guard its own self-respect?
Yet, if I must say it just once, let it be clear:
Beggars can't be choosers.
When every single path is completely sealed,
Why throw a tantrum? Why complain of the yield?
Be grateful for whatever comes your way, but always keep in mind:
Beggars can't be choosers.
What use is stubbornness? Where is the pride?
No desires left, no grace by your side.
Where every single urge and wish is slain,
There knees bow down to circumstance and pain…
Because Beggars can't be choosers.
What kind of right is that which must be begged and won?
What kind of strength is that which crushes the weak undone?
No matter how mighty tyranny grows, a fall is bound to find its day,
Because Beggars can't be choosers.
Those people who were never chosen by the land,
Where humanity has withered away from the strand,
Where sincerity is utterly nowhere to be found,
And faith in oneself is missing and bound…
Let them all hear this and clearly know:
Beggars can't be choosers.
This public that weeps and wanders in pain,
This poor soul crushed like wheat in the mill's grain,
These hungry hands forced to beg in despair….
O tyrant, keep a reckoning of their share!
Everything is permitted in your greedy eyes,
Yet tyranny, too, has a limit where it dies!
Do not play with the helplessness of the weak and poor,
No matter how high the throne you secure…
Still know this well, before it’s through:
Beggars can't be choosers.
The public never chose you to lead,
You were forced upon us by greed!
We never picked you, we never desired,
Now free us from your barbarism, we are tired!
Your final accounting will be taken by the Lord,
Because Beggars can't be choosers.
