Dear Friends,
When my sixth novel, Don’t Look Down, was released early in 2020, I had a big book tour planned. While I got to do my events in NYC and Toronto, all the other tour dates were cancelled because of Covid. It was the smart play at the time, since it was the early days of the pandemic and no one even knew how the virus was transmitted, but I was so sad about it. For me, going on tour is the cherry on top of the cake — it’s my reward for being locked away writing for months at a time!
When my seventh novel, Her Last Breath, came out, my publisher decided not to tour me but instead to host events via Zoom. It wasn’t a bad idea — Zoom is wonderfully inclusive, allowing people to tune in for anywhere — but a virtual event does not have the energy of a live event. While Her Last Breath turned out to be a bestseller, I felt like I was missing out on the fun part of my job.
That’s why I’m so excited my new publisher, Blackstone, will be sending me out on tour for Every Lie I Told this coming June. I’ll be launching the book at The Mysterious Bookshop on Tuesday, June 16th — mark your calendars, friends! — and I’ll let you know about the tour once all of the dates are nailed down. But I’ve got some events before release day that I need to tell you about:
I’ll be at BookCon in NYC on April 18th! Yes, that means I’m spending a sunny Saturday inside the Javits Center, but I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ll be signing advance copies of Every Lie I Told at the Blackstone booth (#154) at 11:30. It’s a ticketed event, so you’ll need to stop by the booth before I start signing to guarantee that you’ll get a copy. Even if you don’t snag a ticket, please come by to say hello!
On Saturday, May 16th, I’ll be at CrimeCONN in Stamford, CT. CrimeCONN is Connecticut’s own one-day mystery lovers’ conference, with the Friends of the Ferguson Library in Stamford working in partnership with the New York Chapter of the Mystery Writers of America. You can join in person or via Zoom — registration information is here.
The highlight of my year is when I get to hang out with people who aren’t just my imaginary friends. Looking forward to seeing you in person this year!
