A client told me last week she was scared to hand off her email work.
I asked why.
“We hired a launch company once. They accidentally sent an email to 30,000 people giving away a paid resource for free.”
I had to pause and let that one breathe.
That’s the kind of mistake that doesn’t just mess up the launch. It puts a dent in the trust you might ever hire to help you with email going forward.
So when I asked her about her current setup—full of duplicated sequences, rules layered on rules, link triggers from launches she ran three years ago—and she said, “It’s all a little jerry-rigged”… I understood why.
When the stakes are that high, you don’t redesign. You just keep adding to what’s working.
But here’s the thing I told her:
Holding onto every email isn’t the same as protecting your business. It’s just choosing one risk (you burning out, or eventually missing a launch window) over another (someone else screwing up).
The fix was never doing it all yourself.
The fix is a checklist that catches the wrong link. A second set of eyes before send. A process where every email gets reviewed by someone who isn’t the one who wrote it.
Boring stuff. Not glamorous.
But the reason I can hand off email work for my clients and still sleep at night isn’t because my team never makes mistakes. It’s because the system catches them before subscribers ever see them.
The 30,000-emails-for-free story is a process failure, not a person failure.
If you’re scared to delegate your email — that fear is the system telling you what to build next.
