Not-So-Brief Brief to the Standing Committee on Health to Restore (Play on words) Natural Health Products (NHPs) To Their Own Regulations

How many times have we heard when things just don’t make sense…follow the money?

On June 22, 2023 the month following the declaration of the end of the pandemic by the WHO, the Liberals secretly passed in their 2023 Budget Bill C-47 a one liner hidden at the back that reclassified NHPs in with the poisonous chemical drugs referred to a “therapeutic products” (TPs). But this just didn’t make sense.

The main reason this made NO sense was because certain natural products such as blood, blood products, heparins and hormones are a little more risky than most vitamines or minerals and so when this was recognized they were automatically moved out of the NHP regulations into the much tougher and restricted TP domain. I don’t know how many of you know while vitamin D3 is considered a NHP sold on the shelf, the active component of calcitriol is regulated as a chemical drug (TP).

So this essentially means only the safe ones had remained in the NHP Regulations.

In my brief that I submitted tonight, I searched long and hard to find a real reason for why this took place, in secrecy and with blatant disregard for the fact that it was well known that Canadians vehemently opposed such an unreasonable move that would surely destroy the NHP industry placing many Canadians at risk.
