I’m pleased to announce the launch of a new podcast, Radio Station EXP!
Following my critical review of Charles Cross’s Hendrix biography, many of you asked a simple question: Which book should I read instead? To be honest, I didn’t have a great answer. While there are certainly great books out there, many are remarkably dense, and almost every volume comes with its own set of flaws or narrow angles.
That feedback got me thinking. Instead of pointing to a single text, I decided to build a podcast to tell the story of Jimi’s career in a rich, long-form narrative format.
Rather than viewing his life in isolation, Radio Station EXP places Jimi’s arc directly inside the turbulent context of late 1960s politics, culture, and—most importantly—the surrounding music scene. When you reconstruct all of those elements side by side, you quickly realize just how much history was colliding at a single moment. It makes the overarching story infinitely more compelling. And as we approach the 60th anniversary of these defining events, the timing couldn’t be better.
What the Podcast Will Cover
Month-by-Month Narrative: The core thrust of the show is a chronological, month-by-month deep dive into Jimi’s journey and the world around him.
Special Features: Expect occasional interviews, archival news, and specialized analytical segments along the way.
Audio-First Format: The show is launching as audio-only for now, though I may explore a video format further down the line.
What This Means for Heaven Research
I’m not stepping away from writing. I’ll continue publishing long-form investigatory pieces, deep-dive analysis, reviews, and breaking news right here on Heaven Research.
The debut episode—taking a look at August 1966, the last month of Jimi’s “struggling artist” period—will be released shortly. Subscribers here on Substack will get first access right in their inbox, followed by releases on all major podcast platforms.
