And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19, NIV).
Five dogs, two cats, and another empty hummingbird’s nest (on yet another windy walk): that is how many amazing animals, and their habitats, I got to experience in just one week.
My beloved dog passed away over two years ago, but there is still a dog-sized hole in my heart. It hasn’t quite repaired itself. Perhaps it never will. I do know that I’m much more intentional about finding an animal to visit with. I even ask God to send a dog my way to pet because it eases the pain.
Of course, I can help with that ache by getting another dog. Yet, my husband and I are in a phase of our lives where we want a little more freedom. The kids are out, the dog is gone, it’s just the two of us. And with that, we can travel and do things without strings attached, or things needing us to come home at a certain time.
But this is where God comes in, with his creations and creativity. I met up with two friends and their dogs (I didn’t ask to see them; they just brought them!), and got to pet three other random and sweet dogs this week. Add in two cats, and another bird’s nest, and well… my heart is full.
No request is too small for God. If you’re hurting in any small (or large) way, ask God to heal your pain in His own way. He’s waiting for us to ask.
