WALKING MY WAYS. I believe that the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea should rent out observation booths. Stationed all around town. Where people could sit, enjoy the weather and watch the passing parade. And then eavesdrop over that same parade. Easily and happily. I can’t tell you where every booth would be, but surely can suggest two. One inside our Post Office. And one outside our Post Office, on the corner of 5th and Dolores.

Where else can one observe people, dogs, trucks, workmen, and brightly colored doggy bags, whose dispensers are replenished TWICE weekly? Due to high demand. Where else can one meet and greet ones neighbors and friends? As well as newcomers? While reading all kinds of directives. Such as forthcoming city council meetings. Updates on various musical events. And also watch the laudable and never ending sprucing up, that Carmel Cares achieves. Continuously and effectively.

Recently, I drove to Sweet Elena’s, in Sand City, to buy some quiches, for that evening’s guests. As well as frozen Lasagna, from Bigoli’s Artisan Pasta shop, for the future. And then back to my freezer. And the laundry. Before going to the Post Office. Where I really saw Carmel in Action. Especially on Dolores St. Next to the PIT. For years, when nothing was happening, the PIT got everyone’s attention. In lookers and questioners. Now, during construction, it gets even more. Plus watching the street itself, and its abundance of large trucks, machines, conveyor belts, workmen and more. Exciting stuff. But no place to sit. And where an observation booth, with comfortable chairs, would definitely be the answer. And a win, win, for everyone. I think.

In addition, this thought might become an opportunity for people to guess, whether observations booths would be a good or bad idea. As life appears to be a guessing game, including an endless amount of assumptions. Which I generally have. But are often wrong. But in this case, I assumed it was time for my nap. Which it was. Finis.
