WALKING MY WAYS. Recently, I tried to call out of state cousins. But they were on vacation. On the other hand, a few weeks ago, other cousins came to visit. Which was wonderful. These cousins first called, to see if they might visit me that week. But I couldn’t. So I suggested another date, and they couldn’t. But ultimately, we figured it out. And I assumed they would drive down, stay for lunch, and leave. But no, they thought they might come for dinner. Which they did. And then “camped out” in my living room. Which was grand. Three of them. Mom. Pop. And daughter, who had just graduated from college. And the next morning we all went out for breakfast. At the LITTLE SWISS. After which, they left. But it was a delightful visit, and I felt honored by their visit.
Whenever I have guests, I feel honored. Especially if they stay in my house. And though I have a very small house, it does have three toilets. Which is a lifesaver. So rather than go through my bedroom, every time they want to use the toilet, they have their own, in the back room. Which is a blessing. As the third is off limits, as it is in my rental.
Years ago, I put in this extra toilet, and subsequently asked the water company to check my water credits. But when they came to the back room, to see the toilet, they examined it carefully, to make sure it really flushed. Apparently some unethical customers stash un-hooked toilets, in the hopes of getting extra water credits, pretending that they work. Fortunately, I am not in that category.
But it did make me think of ethics. Of which there are many. Perhaps saying please and thank you are two of the easiest. Though they only reflect good manners. Nevertheless, it helps to be honest. And likewise, there is an old proverb, “Never tell a lie, it saves thinking.” Which is true. Guaranteed. Finis.
