How I Find the Best Pieces on The RealReal

I’ve always believe the best wardrobes, like homes, are built overtime. Curated throughout the years, vs purchased all at once. Layered with pieces with a story and history.

If you know me, you know my love of vintage. And if you know me better, you know I love a deep passion for vintage fashion (along with furniture, obviously, I mean, I have the Lawless Design Shoppe). The place the I source most often is The Real Real. To me, they have the best selection of vintage and pre loved pieces, and it’s also a credible place with authentication resources. (I WISH this was sponsored, but no, I just love the platform.)

There’s also something fun with the hunt of the game. If you do any vintage shopping, interiors or fashion, I don’t know about you, but I get a full rush when I spot something so unexpected and beautiful. There’s a notion that when something is vintage, you know you’re not going to find it everywhere. And I love that. I love having pieces that you can’t just click a button and buy. I love having things that feel personal to me and tell a story. To me, fashion and interiors go hand in hand. Running and interior design studio and home vintage shop, I add in so many vintage pieces to my designs. I apply this same formula to what I wear.

So often I get asked where I got something I’m wearing. And most often, those are my pre loved pieces. And specifically, most often, I sourced it from The Real Real. Over the years, I’ve gleaned some tips on how to score the best pieces on the platform.

Saved Searches

Right now I have a few key items that I’m searching for - a pair of brown loafers, specifically brands like Saint Laurent, Stuart Weitzman, and Gucci. Another search I have ongoing is a long brown leather jacket. One that is pretty niche is a long asymmetrical plaid dress.

When you have saved searches, you can click on those tabs and review all the new items that have popped up that day. That way, you’re being efficient and not having to continue to plug in filters. This is a great way to search if you have specific things in mind you’re looking for.

Brands that I am continually searching for are Tom Ford for Gucci, Prada, Phoebe Philo for Chloe, Saint Laurent, Khaite, The Row, and Toteme. For shoes, I love finding Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik. The 90s more broadly, which was one of the most interesting and staple eras for fashion that are timeless.
