What people showed off at our latest vibe coding event

Six people demoed tools they'd built with AI, and our video is out. Joey Coleman turned 197 monthly PDFs into a searchable 16-year database of building permits. Drew Bennett built a dashboard for 244 state highway cameras that local TV producers now cycle through live on air. Angela Eichhorst pulls meeting videos from 85 Connecticut towns and sends beat reporters a digest matched to what they cover.

As Coleman put it: “You don't have to know the code, you just have to know what the code output you're looking for.”

AI x Visual Journalism Forum, Los Angeles, Aug. 25–26

Tuesday evening opens with Nonny de la Peña and Rory Mitchell on their volumetric documentation of the Los Angeles fires, set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Wednesday is hands-on: building photoreal 3D reconstructions out of ordinary photos, a walkthrough of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse rebuilt from scraped YouTube video, and an hour where you'll learn vibe coding to publish your own portfolio site.

Produced with Arizona State University's Narrative and Emerging Media program, with CatchLight as a presenting partner. Standard registration closes Saturday: $50, or $25 for students.

AI x Investigative Journalism Forum at The New York Times, Sept. 25

A full day on document analysis, pattern detection and verification, plus sessions from The Times' AI team on what they're building. Still filling. If your organization is interested in sponsoring, reply and we'll send details.
