I think one of the funniest parts about gardening for a long time is eventually realizing that you do not have to grow something just because you can.

You also don’t have to keep growing something because gardeners are “supposed” to grow it.

Every year teaches me a little more about what actually makes sense for our family, our grocery bill, my time and the amount of garden space I have available. This year, there are a few plants I’m very ready to say goodbye to.

There are also a few I’m not completely breaking up with, but we are absolutely redefining the relationship and then there’s one plant I’ve fallen so hard for that you’ll probably be seeing even more of it next year.

This isn’t about whether any of these plants are “good” or “bad” crops.

It’s just about whether they make sense here.

You probably won’t see lettuce growing in my garden again.

And I know. LETTUCE.

Possibly one of the most classic things you can grow in a vegetable garden.
