Thought we’d try something new. Short episodes. This one is around testing prices on your site.

Can you do it? Kinda.

There are some issues, though.

Notably, there are ethical issues of charging higher prices to some people. There are also technical issues related to serving consistent pricing to the same users.

There are some (not perfect) solutions.

You can ensure everyone always ends up paying the same price. Obviously, this isn’t perfect. The motivation for someone seeing a suddenly lower price at the point of payment will be different to someone who does not. But it’s something, I guess.

You can also use time-gated pricing. This means testing one price one week and another price another week. This is also not perfect, as your audience may not be comparable between the two groups.

If you look beyond A/B testing, you can use surveying methods, such as the Gabor-Granger method, a market research technique that asks individuals if they would pay a certain price. Afterwards, you analyse the price elasticity.

There’s other methods too. But this gives you a good starting point for your journey. Let us know if you want us to dive deeper into any other specific techniques.
