I found Shirlei through Zoe Schaeffer at a point where I was getting a little frustrated with my recovery.
Four months post facelift and neck lift, I still had a surprising amount of fluid sitting under my chin. Nothing is wrong, it’s just…lingering. An amazing amount of lymph fluid stuck under my chin, like a rock. Anyone who’s had facial surgery knows that recovery doesn’t happen on the timeline you imagine when you book the procedure.
What immediately interested me about Shirlei was her focus on recovery. Yes, she does facial lymphatic drainage, but she also works with post-surgical clients, oncology patients, scar tissue, TMJ, and people whose bodies are navigating something significant.
So I booked a post surgery lymphatic session and was blown away. The treatment itself was incredibly gentle. I actually expected more pressure. Instead, every movement felt intentional and totally precise. By the end, my jawline and neck felt lighter, less congested, and generally…better. But that’s not all.
I was also really impressed by how she talks about the lymphatic system, because I’ll admit, lymphatic drainage can start to sound vague very quickly. What she explained, and what I felt in the treatment, is that lymph isn’t some mystical beauty word. It’s fluid movement. It’s your body clearing excess fluid, supporting immune function, and trying to bring swelling down after trauma or surgery.
The technique itself is light because the vessels are close to the surface, so the goal isn’t to force anything. It’s to gently encourage the flow. That’s where her work felt so specific to me. She understood the channels, the pressure, the timing, and the fact that my face was still healing.
More importantly, I left thinking: where was this woman two months ago?!
Here’s the deal with Shirlei.
She’s Brazilian, a licensed massage therapist, and the founder of Shila Beauty Center, tucked away in a quiet little private studio on North Rodeo Drive. It’s pretty and simple, without all the extra spa theater. Just a calm, intimate space and a woman with incredible energy who clearly knows exactly what she’s doing.
Her specialty is lymphatic drainage for the face and body, post-surgical massage, TMJ work, post-natal and oncology massage, which immediately caught my attention because her practice isn’t centered around beauty alone. It’s centered around healing.
I was especially moved by the oncology side of her practice. Shirlei also works with clients who are going through or recovering from cancer treatment, including people dealing with surgery, reconstruction, scar tissue, swelling, and the physical aftermath of chemotherapy. That requires a completely different level of care. You’re not just touching a body. You’re working with someone who has been through something huge, and her whole approach seems built around that kind of sensitivity.
I know celebrity clients are not the whole story and it can be a little tacky and not my style to address, but, as we know, in a town where celebs can access pretty much anyone they want, I think it does carry weight. Especially when we’re talking about the people trusted to touch famous faces and post-surgery bodies.
I spent about thirty seconds on her Instagram before realizing I was basically scrolling through the Hollywood Reporter. Kate Hudson. Michelle Monaghan. Emmanuelle Chriqui. Zoe Saldaña. Cheryl Lee Ralph. Jessie Buckley. Wunmi Mosaku. The list goes on.
Which makes sense. When someone is working on your face, your jaw, your swelling, your scar tissue, or supporting your recovery after surgery, you want experience. You want skill. You want someone people trust enough to send their friends to.
That’s very much the impression I got from Shirlei.
Her work sits in that much more interesting space between beauty and recovery. The body after surgery. The body after treatment. The body dealing with inflammation, fluid, tension, scar tissue, and all the things that don’t show up in the glossy before-and-after.
This is not the treatment I’d book because I want to look snatched for dinner. (Though she totally does that too.)This is the person I’d send someone to after a facelift, a neck lift, a body procedure, breast surgery, reconstruction, chemotherapy, TMJ pain, or any moment when the body needs a little more care and a lot more intelligence.
She’s officially on THE GLA LIST.
