Spain extends Almaraz nuclear plant operations to 2030, delaying closure by three years

I’ve attached a Friday 14 August 2026 article from Euronews regarding the Spanish Almaraz Nucleaer Power Plant operations extension to 2030.

• A coaliton of citizen groups came together to oppose the ideologically-based closure of a nuclear power plant in a similar fashion to the first extension of Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP.)

• Mothers for Nuclear is mentioned in the article

• Energy security concerns in light of the wars in Ukraine and Iran were additional motivations to keep Almaraz running.

• References to the EU petition (and a closed counter-petition) are included at the end of the article.

When I conducted a search and identified a link to thsi article, Google raised security concerns regarding an advertisement and suggested that I avoid visiting the Euronews website. I chose to ignore Google’s warnings. I notified Euronews’s offices in Lyon, France regarding the Google warning. I find Google’s warning curious as I have previously visited the Euronews website without incident.

Californians for Green Nuclear Power, Inc. (CGNP) will be raising the Almaraz extension as another reason for the State of California to extend DCPP to 2045 during the 2026 legislative session which ends in about two weeks. On 2 April 2026 DCPP’s operating license was extended to 2045 by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commisision. What do you think?
