Things that Go Bump in the Twilight

The lazy sky sweats throughout the day and pants at night

A final hour walking under the clouds framed by sunlight

Horseflies drunk off stealing power from under your skin

You watch the transforming colors of the atmosphere grin

Endless clear vistas elude this abandoned land of damp air

No other people nearby to see a wild horse or jumping hare

Everybody went to sleep on the cusp of a boundless dream

Faint sounds skip along the bog of an old dragon’s scream

A bigfoot could appear in a place and a time such as this

Mere sight of the sasquatch would send you into the abyss

The Loch Ness Monster has little room to bask in a marsh

But a T-Rex can roam the sluggish lands in an era so harsh

Just a vision of swamps filled with creatures real and fake

Sizzling months retreat and return from this wannabe lake

Evening cools while the water droplets flee your epidermis

Fear fades when horseflies stop treating you like a thermos
