Trump’s “2nd Thoughts” - Anyone who is vaguely familiar with Donald Trump’s “M.O.,” going back to his real estate days in New York shouldn’t be surprised by his “second thoughts” about providing a license to Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptors, or adding terms to the “nuclear deal” with Saudi Arabia after the fact. These are negotiating ploys Donald learned at feet of his Father, Fred Trump, and his lawyer, Roy Cohn. For those who don’t know who Roy Cohn was, here is a link to a segment on Roy Cohn produced by “60 Minutes.” There is also a documentary, entitled “Where’s My Roy Cohn.” I think that to know Donald, you need to know Roy Cohn.

Ukrainian Wartime Poetry – There is an effort underway by the University of Exeter in the UK to translate and publish young Ukrainian poets, most of whom are serving in the Army. You can find more information about the project, and the poets, on last Friday’s edition of the Telegraph’s “Ukraine the Latest.” You can find it on YouTube. It’s the last 20 minutes.
I encourage you to watch all the readings (in Ukrainian with English subtitles) - These are the people, Ukrainian intellectuals, that Russia wants mostly to eradicate. It’s no different from the 1930s, when Stalin ordered the murder of most of the occupants of the Writers’ House, in Kharkiv.
“How Ukrainian Farmers Grow Watermelons Near the Front Lines”/Kyiv Independent The Kherson Region is famous for its watermelons. These people are defying Russian “human safaris”, loitering drones whose objective is to kill people, and they continue to grow watermelons. Aside from the watermelons, they talk about their sense of place and the relationship they have with their employees. It’s people like these who explain why Russia doesn’t have chance.
“Putin’s Advance Has Been Brought to a Flatline”/George Barros, Institute for the Study of War (ISW) – Along with Maxim Tucker of the London Times and Francis Farrell of the Kyiv Independent, Barros is the best and most well-informed student of the War in Ukraine. Barros doesn’t let his support for Ukraine get in the way of his honest analysis of events on the ground. This video is the most optimistic assessment that I’ve seen Barros make.
“Russia Can’t Ignore This”/Caolan Robertson – This video, only 12 minutes long, is a follow-up to the interview Robertson did a couple of weeks ago with Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, Head of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces. Robertson did the interview at Peregova, an outdoor museum outside of Kyiv, similar to the reproduction of the colonial village at Deerfield, Massachusetts. Included in the park are a couple of old windmills that you can see along the left-side of the video. I don’t agree with Robertson’s assessment that “there’s a very real chance that Ukraine will fall.” He said Ukraine is being pushed back along the front line in Donbas. According to ISW, while that is true in some places, it is by no means true along the entire front. In my view, Ukraine won in early April 2022, when they drove the Russians away from the Gates of Kyiv. The war will end where it started, in Crimea. For those who are interested, here is a brilliant account of the Battle for Kyiv from the Wall St. Journal.
I agree with Robertson that Ukraine will win, not on the battlefield as traditionally defined, but behind the lines and by what Robertson called “psychology.” Magyar Brovidi, and the forces he commands, is the point of Ukraine’s spear.
There are only a few days left, of Zelenskyy’s “40-day war to bring the war home to Russia.” I wonder if there’s a crescendo in order.

11:53 AM: The State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicions against two servicemen of the 425th Assault Regiment “Skelya” for cruel treatment of fellow soldiers.
● One of the defendants beat a military chaplain, causing him a broken jaw and a concussion, and also attacked a lieutenant colonel, breaking his rib.
