One gift I give myself these days (most of the time, at least for domestic travel) is letting myself check a bag vs. attempting to cram a week’s worth of clothing into a tiny carry-on. It makes me a more easy-going traveler (I become a little crazy about securing overhead space), it makes for a nicer connection, and besides: it’s nice to have options (not to mention full-sized toiletries).
I completely overpacked for this trip and have no regrets. Packing for a week at the lake is tricky! You need swimwear and shorts for daytime, cozy things for evening . . . hiking clothes, rain clothes . . . you catch my drift. Besides, we rented a house for the week — cue me panic-packing full-size toiletries (sunscreen, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, my beloved bug stone) because you just don’t know who will pack (and forget) what. Add to that: supplements, protein powder, a water bottle . . . five books; I could go on.
I’ll just say that my massive checked bag earned a giant eyeroll from my father!
