Hello and welcome to Gossip Time, a weekly guide to the stars by Allie Jones. Today, we’re discussing Reverse Megxit with the inimitable Hunter Harris of Hung Up.
In case you haven’t looked at the People.com homepage lately (and why not?): Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Sussex are moving back to Britain. Like, tomorrow, it seems. They’ve enrolled their children in a (for now) secret school! They are establishing a “private, non-royal home base” in the country they escaped six years ago!! They plan to stay “for an extended period”!!!!
Of course, I had to meet up in a Google doc with my favorite Meghan Markle discussion partner to process all of this. Please enjoy this conversation with Hunter Harris of Hung Up, and PLEASE share all your thoughts and theories in the comments. (You can also read our chat in her newsletter, which I trust you are already subscribed to. Her headline kills me.)
The last time Hunter and I chatted about the Sussexes, Meg was saying things like “my bacon brings all the boys to the yard” on her now-cancelled Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan. Simpler times. Now, back to Britain…
Hunter Harris: When I read the news, you were the first person I texted. This is legitimately shocking! I personally would rather be miserable in Montecito than to give the British tabloids even one moment of satisfaction. But after six years of off-and-on unemployment, what else was there for them to do here in America? I’m dying to know what you think about the timing of this move.
Allie Jones: It is so, so crazy, especially after H&M spent all of July complaining about the lack of taxpayer-funded security for their last U.K. visit (timed around the “One Year to Go” celebration for the 2027 Invictus Games, which, okay, whatever). For years, Harry has complained that traveling to England with his children is simply too dangerous. Now they’re gonna send them to school there?
