As I said to a number of friends last Friday, never did I expect to be purchasing a physical copy of the album on which this songs lives. I own nothing else by this artist (though that’s probably about to change), but this wonderful fuck you to her label and convention after having what was probably the biggest album of 2024, one which made her a superstar, is something I can’t resist. Did she follow that explosive hit album up with something similar, dance-floor hits and anthems which would make fans and label executives drool? Nope. Not even close.
This is raw, noisy eye-rolling fun, clipped with punk energy. It’s the last thing I would have expected from a dance-pop goddess. But it’s so damn good. Every track bristles with energy. The last track bristles with filmmaker David Cronenberg. It’s a play-it-loud album that sounds better on every spin.
It was hard picking a single tune to share, but I had to go with this. It’s snarky, it’s rude, it’s funny as hell, and yes, it freaking rocks!
