May reminded us that meaningful growth begins with strong roots. This month, we welcomed new collaborations and spaces for shared learnings and exchange. As programmes deepened and communities expanded, we found ourselves reflecting on how far we’ve come, while continuing to nurture what’s next.
→ Workshops for Cohort 1 of Hyacinthesis Accelerator officially kicked off with: Introduction to Supply Chain and Marketing, facilitated by Program Lead Lonali Rodrigo at the GLX office. The session brought together six enterprises working in the craft space using Water Hyacinth and natural materials, challenging them to confront and rethink their business realities, design opportunities, and entrepreneurial journeys 🪻
→ As a first step towards identifying the regenerative roadmap of their businesses, a THRIVE Masterclass was held for the newly onboarded Cohort 2 of the Circular Economy in the Food Sector programme, supported by the European Union through the Global Gateway Strategy and BMZ, featuring Silk Route Ventures, Clean Tech, Saara Labs, AR Naturals, Navigata, Jaffna Horticulture, Seashore Garden, and Ai Grow 🥭 Co-facilitated by Director & Advisor Arj Wignaraja and Director Vihangun Ariyaratne, the session encouraged participants to reflect on the regenerative potential of their enterprises.
To wrap up, a meet-up between the outgoing and incoming cohorts was facilitated, bringing together AGC Innovate, Nootz Smoothies, Ceylbee International and Terapy Ceylon for a Reciprocity Circle: where one enterprise’s business challenge became another’s opportunity to offer support, insight, or solutions.
→ Our Founder, Randhula de Silva, hosted a THRIVE Masterclass for our partners at the United Nations Global Compact Sri Lanka, taking the team through GLX’s Regenerative and Inclusive Canvas.
→ The 2nd Workshop of Hyacinthesis Accelerator was conducted in collaboration with the City School of Architecture (CSA), focused on design principles. Bringing together artisans with deep expertise in their craft and Foundation-level CSA students with fresh product ideas, the workshop created a collaborative space to bridge traditional craftsmanship and new ways of creative thinking 🎨
The workshop also brought together GLX Alumni - Hyacinthesis Program Lead, Lonali Rodrigo (2020 Garage Participant + GLX Expert), Year Coordinator for Studio 1 at CSA Anurangi Mendis (2020 Grants for Tourism Resilience Recipient + GLX Expert), Design Tutor - Foundation Studio & Project Lead at CSA Jonathan Edward (2022 RCF Residency Participant + GLX Expert), Design Tutor Foundation Studio at CSA Kanil Dias Abeygunawardene (2024 CCF Fellow) - to conduct this star-studded session! 🌟
→ Saviru Technologies & Services completed an ADB-supported Technology Innovation Challenge project in Pingelap, Federated States of Micronesia, establishing a solar-powered food processing facility for a remote island community ⚙️ The system enables local processing of crops such as taro, breadfruit, bananas, coconuts, and fish into value-added products, including flour, coconut oil, and dried foods, supporting improved food security and livelihood opportunities while demonstrating a scalable clean-energy model for post-harvest processing in climate-vulnerable regions.
→ Honeyli Ceylon / RHS Bee Honey, by Founder Sanjeewani Perera of the Heat Futures Colombo Cohort, continues to expand its range of value-added natural honey products, including Cinnamon, Garlic, Ginger, Amla, and herbal wellness variants, alongside handmade honey wax luxury soaps infused with natural ingredients such as Kasthuri Kaha, Kohomba, cinnamon, and pure bee honey 🐝 Based in Hasalaka, the venture is also strengthening its focus on branding, product development, and community-based wellness entrepreneurship rooted in sustainable bee farming and natural health products 🍯
→ AGC Innovate recently completed a CSR initiative at the School for the Deaf & Blind, Ratmalana, paving the internal access road connecting the School for the Blind, School for the Deaf, and basketball court using Plastic Modified Asphalt Concrete (PMAC). Incorporating 52kg of mismanaged plastic waste into the project, the initiative demonstrated how circular solutions can create meaningful community impact while improving accessibility within the school premises ♻️
